Last Friday night Deus Camperdown saw another Kitchen Takeover worthy of both chop and stick. However, this time the menu was crafted by Northern Beaches Flavour Sheriff, and new Deus chum, Veronton.
Wall to wall oriental creations, live music, localised beers and a vibe hard to find since days before lockdown.
To explain the night properly, it would remiss not to rewind a few weeks, to a gloomy Saturday morning upon the sandy doorstep of Deus Manly – where Veronton made her offical Deus debut.
It was a perfect excuse to eat all the ante meridiem dumplings your hearts always desired. And that we did. With pan in hand, Veronton served a banquet of breakfast dumplings, grazed by the masses, and with bulging waistlines and Truff stained smiles, we started planning the next instalment.
Fast forward to last Friday and Veronton was back in the lab, this time post meridiem for the Camperdown cohort. Dumplings by the dozen, large spring rolls (no cocktail nonsense), fried chicken and deep fried ice cream for those with a sweet tooth.
The house was packed, bellies full, loud music and for those of us kicking around til the end, the drinks weren’t bad either. All in all a great night, with faces new and old leaving chuffed, stuffed and ready for round 2.
